More than three decades ago, Hollywood location scouts knocked on the door of an Iowa farmer looking for a picturesque setting to help turn a book about baseball mysticism into a film.
After “Field of Dreams” hit theaters, the farmer preserved the movie set, and visitors have been making the trip to the town of Dyersville and finding magic among the cornfields ever since.
When Major League Baseball hosted a regular-season game at the Field of Dreams Movie Site, real baseball history was made in the place created for make believe fun.
This year's festivities marks the second installment of the Field of Dreams Game after the inaugural edition was played on Aug. 12, 2021 between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees. That contest was thrilling and ended with the White Sox earning a 9-8 win, courtesy of a walk-off home run by shortstop Tim Anderson.
In 'Is This Heaven? The Magic of the Field of Dreams' Baseball BBQ partner Brett Mandel reflected, "Built to bring a work of fiction to life as a film, the Field of Dreams just outside Dyersville, Iowa has been transformed from a movie set into a pop culture mecca and secular hallowed ground."
MLB at Field of Dreams returns on Thursday, Aug. 11, when two of baseball’s most historic Clubs, the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds, play a regular season game on the iconic movie location.
Brett will be at the Beyond the Game festival in Dyersville this week, autographing copies of his book — and selling custom Baseball BBQ tools and cutting boards for fans of movie magic, baseball, and grilling.
Come join us for the festivities!
